Traveling around the country as much as I do for work has me missing home in San Antonio so I decided to visited the Hilton San Antonio Airport for a “Staycation” San Antonio has so much to offer, and I sometimes forget that because it's right in my back yard.
From the minute, I walked in the front door, I knew I had made a perfect choice for a “Staycation”. The valet was so polite and helped me find the front desk, and the sweet gal at the front desk was so informative about all the local attractions. We parked the car in the “Free” parking garage, you don’t find that everywhere, and headed to our room. WOW, our room was amazing, we had a two-room suite, and the view was beautiful because the sun was just starting to set as we got ready for dinner.
We unpacked in our very spacious room, wow, the closet in this room was really big, and the TV stand had hidden gems, a refrigerator, coffee maker and even a microwave, not to mention drawers for our clothes if we were going to stay longer. The desk was, well you guessed it, great. It even had file cabinets, how awesome is that.
We freshened up and headed down for dinner at Asado, the restaurant connected to the Hilton. I had eaten lunch there a couple of times but we were really looking forward to the dinner menu, I had no idea how amazing the dinner was going to be.
The new bar menu had a lot to offer, I am a martini girl so the specialty martini’s caught my eye.
I ordered the frozen dirty martini and it was really tasty. They don’t blend it, they mash it, what a great concept. My husband ordered the Roadrunner cocktail and I must say, it was pretty darn tasty too.
The Manager Sal, was so sweet telling us all the new menu items and even suggested a few different appetizers. We started with the Asado Nachos. "OMG", does not do it justice.
These were some of the best nachos I have ever tasted. The chips were crispy and covered with spiced BBQ Brisket, Smoked Queso Blanco, House Pickled Serrano Chili, Black Beans, Slaw, Avocado and Pico. The portion was huge; it could have fed 4.
Then we shared the BBQ Brisket Sliders, let’s start with the amazing horseradish pickles, I am a pickle girl too, and these were hands down the best pickles I have ever had. I took a small bite with every bite of my slider, which had the mouthwatering house BBQ Brisket, Shaved Port Cheddar Cheese, Crispy Slaw and the buns that all this yumminess was on were perfect.
I know, but wait, there’s more. Next we ordered our main course, my husband ordered the 6-oz. steak, he would have gone bigger, but you just read all the food we had already eaten. I ordered the Seafood Grill. We ate our salads, and then it arrived, the best steak my husband had ever eaten, his words exactly.
My seafood grill was amazing as well; the scallops were cooked perfectly and the cedar plank salmon had this wonderful crisp seasoning on the outside. Both of our meals came with their signature au gratin potatoes. The steak came with broccoli rob and a wonderful Béarnaise sauce, I wanted to eat that sauce on everything, it could be its own food group. I am running out of adjectives to describe how fabulous this dinner was, but if you know me, you know that after a meal I must have coffee and dessert.
The chef Matt, came out to talk with us and we had a very informative discussion about food, and other items on the menu that we hadn't the privilege to try yet, don't worry I will be back soon to check them out.
We decided to enjoy our coffee and dessert in our glorious room that was waiting for us upstairs on the 14th floor. I had the Key Lime Pie and he had the Hot Fudge Brownie, which came with berries and ice cream. What a finish to such a wonderful meal, the desserts were just as tasty and I was officially stuffed.
The night was still early and we were on a “Staycation” so we went across the highway to the shopping center where they had a comedy club, movie theater, and a whole lot of shopping available. The great thing about the Hilton San Antonio Airport is that it is located perfectly to enjoy so many things in San Antonio, the Zoo is only about 10 minutes away, and Sea World and Fiesta Texas are only about 15 – 20 minutes away. And if you want to venture downtown, you are only 15 – 20 minutes from the Alamo and Riverwalk, two of the most visited attractions in the nation.
If you don't feel like going out, there are many things to keep you busy at the Hilton San Antonio Airport like the pool, hot tub, and work out room.
If your family is coming to visit you for the Thanksgiving, you can leave the cooking to the amazing chefs at the Asado Restaurant, they will be having a Thanksgiving Buffet for only $39.95 per person (adult) and $16.95 for kids 12 and under. Check out the Thanksgiving Menu HERE. Maybe I will see you there, because that is where my family will be celebrating Thanksgiving.
I received the meal and room at no cost when doing this blog, but all of the opinions are my own.
