Traveling for my work is one of the best parts of my business, but finding a hotel that fits my budget and has all the amenities that I need can get frustrating. I always look for the best hotels when I am traveling through Texas, and I love to be close to the excitement and visit as many happening sites as I can, so that all that frustration goes away and I can enjoy each city that I visit.
San Antonio, TX
San Antonio River Walk by John Cubuena
When I am working in San Antonio, I love to stay at the Sheraton Gunther Hotel, which is one of the best deals out there. The restaurant downstairs in the Sheraton Gunther has amazing food, including a gluten-free pizza that is just to die for and an amazing pasta bar.
The hotel is located in the heart of San Antonio, just steps from the Majestic Theater and the Alamo, and only a couple blocks from the new Tobin Center, which features all the greatest musicians and shows that any big city has to offer. While in San Antonio, don’t forget to take a ride on the river barges that go through downtown. You can see all the history and listen to wonderful stories about the Alamo city.
If you have enough time, you should take the Missions tour. There are five to see and they are all beautiful. San Antonio also has amazing amusement parks, from Sea World to Six Flags Fiesta Texas, and the San Antonio Zoo is one of the best in the world.
The Woodlands, TX
Houston Aquarium by Dean Moore
When I am in Houston, I love to stay at the Hyatt Place Houston/The Woodlands in The Woodlands, Texas. This hotel has all the amenities I need, including being pet friendly; I love to take my little Molly with me as much as possible. It is very helpful to me that the hotel has a kitchenette so I can prepare all the breakfast items that I need for my morning TV talk show. After I am done with the show, I love to explore all the sights in Houston, such as the Houston Aquarium, and I love renting a car and driving the 30-minute drive to the Space Center, or even visiting Galveston Beach, which is less than an hour away.
Fredericksburg Shopping Gwethalyn Williams
When I look for hotels in Fredericksburg, I love to submerge myself in all the fun and history in this lovely little town, and I found a wonderful German themed hotel called Friedhelm’s Bavarian Inn. They even have a yummy authentic German restaurant attached. Fredericksburg has much to offer, like the winery tours, amazing shopping, and all the wonderful German food, and if you get a chance to go there, be sure to visit Enchanted Rock. It’s a wonderful place to hike.
Palo Duro Canyon by Angie Clarke
Visiting Amarillo, Texas, is always one of my favorite stops on my way to Colorado for a show, so whether you are just passing through or sticking around for a bit, be sure to visit Palo Duro Canyons. It's just 20 minutes outside of Amarillo and is one of the most beautiful places I have ever been to.
Be sure to give yourself a lot of time there. It has a beautiful mini Grand Canyon that will take your breath away. You can even take a horse ride down into the canyon, but don't worry; if horses aren't your thing, you can rent a car and drive down through the canyons and visit the little restaurant at the bottom. I love to stay at The Ambassador if you're looking for great hotels in Amarillo. It's a newly renovated choice that boasts a perfect location and great price, and it's the perfect hotel for my family.
Fort Worth Zoo by Aaron Maxwell
Visiting Dallas is always a stressful part of my business travels, but it's always helpful to find great Irving hotels, which are right outside the big city. My favorite is the Nylo/Irving Las Colinas Hotel, which takes all of that stress away. Their high-tech industrial look is very pleasing to the eye, and the amazing outdoor pool and lounge area with the connected bar allows me to relax with a drink and forget about all the craziness of my day. There is also so much to do in the Dallas/Irving/ Fort Worth area, like visiting the Fort Worth Zoo or the amazing shopping at the Galleria in Dallas. And don't forget, they have a racetrack in their town, so this is certainly one of my go to destinations.
